We’re raising awareness here on Appliance Safety at home because lives matter and it’s the sort of thing people pass over, unless they know someone who’s had a fire or an accident.
There are plenty of instances of this on the Internet with some tragic circumstances resulting in family fatalities.
Currently the UK government is undergoing a review on Product Recalls, which we hope is not impacted negatively now that we’re heading out of the European Union. EEESafe has contributed it’s combined 50 years of Experience in the Appliance Reuse and Repair Industry into this review, but yet we remain outside the Steering Committee that has been setup. Interesting when you think that Gov says we’re a Safer Standard.
The Manufacturers are at the table, and rightly so, but whilst they show concern for safety their primary motives are still to sell new goods to an ever Consumptive World running out of raw Materials. (See our Brexit Article).
We thought we’d share a little bit of knowledge in that we were the First National Appliance Safety Register, and also that the Manufactures came out with their own version a year after us. We like to think we prompted them into action, but because we put a focus on Waste Prevention, Local Regeneration and Safer Standards, they weren’t too keen to work with us. We support new sales of Appliances on our LocallitEEE Community Platform and we can provide local and national leads to retailers, when someone is replacing their Appliances. 15 Years in the Charity Sector showed us the dangers in the lack of Appliance Repair Knowledge and Refurbishment, and also the demand for used Appliances by local people.
Recently we had the CEO of a National Womens Aid Charity contact us to see if we could help. She maintained that they wanted their limited funds to go further to meet their clients needs, particularly in the Domestic Violence arena. So we told her shortly our updated National Appliance Safety Register could help. We informed her that If you could tell your networks to use our Register, they could not only have a Free Safety Watch for Recalls, but also when someone purchases a new item, it will be easy for them to notify 3 local categories of local need.
A simple login again to your Registered Appliance or Goods, then Click to Notify your replacement will automatically put alerts to the Groups shown below. We’ll soon build up a reserve of goods available for their clients, and also we can do the same for many other household items.
- Consumers looking to buy Used Goods to prevent getting into more debt, and to be assured a Fire Risk is not being passed on.
- Local Repairers and Refurbishers with independently evidenced insurance, who can safely and cost effectively repair goods using approved recycled spares, then advertise for free online at a very local level. (This cuts down and records Waste Prevention Metrics, including Carbon Savings)
- Local Waste Collectors who have the independently evidenced correct licences in place, to either extract in demand spares or sell materials to national organisations. (This keeps materials local and also in the UK, regenerates local business and complies with legislation.)
These groups are registered in our Sustainable Business Directory, and will receive alerts from Consumers ready to purchase new Appliances, and some Retailers will offer a better than Web based price for some of the Manufacturers Products through the LocalitEEE Platform.
We at EEESafe obtain access to the same Recall information that the Manufacturers do, so you can be sure you’ll get the correct advice when it comes to Large White Goods (the cause of many fires), BUT we can also intercept known recalls in the Used Goods Market as well.
So as you’ll see from the above image, where both Registers exist, what the main features and benefits of using the Register of your choice.
The Charity Electrical Safety First researched that 35% of people do not Register their appliances for different reasons. We’re here to give you a choice and one that we hope you’ll see can benefit your local area for jobs, safety, regeneration and tackles environment and poverty. It’s also one that prevents 3rd parties from calling you and attempting to sell you something else.
We exhort you to join our Register which also has a Landlords Section, and start helping others less fortunate that those who can afford new.
