Electrical Product Recalls have long been a problem for Landlords. Many of them perhaps are not even aware they exist, but for the Fire Service, there isn't any doubt as you can see from the this short video. Like most good Landlords you're probably already claiming to be and already are, looking after your Tenants and putting them at the core of your Social Model, or your business interests. As we're sure you are, then please be aware that Government are set on increasing reuse and repair, which is part of their Waste Prevention Policies. So whilst it's great to encourage more repair and reuse, it's not so good if you end up dealing with any rogue traders, or someone who isn't assessed externally as being competent in Electrical Reuse. Worse still, who wants to be dealing with a fire that's preventable?
This is what we do and working with Landlords, we can not only help you protect your property, tenants and compliance with existing legislation under the Housing Act, we can also help you access more lower cost appliances for your homes and tenants. These would be recognised by our own Registered Labels. to help you ascertain you're buying an appliance that will already be on the Register.
Many Registered Social Landlords (RSL's) receive millions of pounds in funding, and no one wants to see this literally go up in flames, if you end up with the type of experience as shown in the video. This could be because of a Recall, or someone who has not completed a repair properly. We believe its a duty of the funding provider, to ensure that taxpayers money is not put an unnecessary risk, which is where our Register can help.
So whether you purchase your Appliances yourself, or from a refurbished source, the appliance could become a Product Recall or is currently subject to one. We'll check that for you for Free and monitor it on an ongoing basis. We would recommend that you therefore consider making it part of your tenancy agreement, that your tenants register any Large Appliances on-line. When a tenant or you decide to register, we can make you the single contact when and if the item is a current fire risk through provision of your Free Landlord Code. 2000 Fires were caused by Large Domestic Appliances in 2011/12 and with more Reuse and Repair encouraged, this will likely increase in the coming years. Because anyone can conduct repairs, we think it's important to have standards and we're beginning to raise that standard, which also brings more work to local organisations who are willing to be accountable and assessed.
