Easyjet and the Eurotunnel have already been hit by losses and forecasts in the millions since Brexit Day, but an article in The Times today says the European Manufacturers of White Goods Appliances, demand an increase on their costs to Retailers by 10%. (Oh Oh!)
Twice a year Manufacturers review their costs, but Brexit appears to have added a new dimension on this process.
Last year EEF, The Manufacturers Association who purport to supporting Global and Local businesses, reported, “Over half of companies would increase investment if Eurozone recovers, 41% would cut investment if Eurozone breaks up”. (Oh Oh!)
The same survey shows that manufacturers’ investment in the latest technology has grown rapidly in recent years to keep up with rising demand.
Barclays have also said in their future-proofing UK Manufacturing report that “Investing an additional £1.2bn into manufacturing processes, to increase robotics and automation over the next decade could add as much as £60.5bn to the UK economy over the next decade” (Oh Oh!)
This is something of real importance to us, and should be to consumers as well because regular followers will know our strategy focuses around better design, safety, waste prevention and tackling poverty. Particularly as nearly every household has White Goods, which make this a big issue for many other reasons.
To get some idea, check out our Pre-Brexit article on the issue of dwindling materials particularly as we are an island here in the UK.
it’s vitally important to have more cost effective safe repairs and reuse of existing and future appliances. Also the engagement of consumers should take centre stage if we’re going to have a sustainable planet. The Corporate World gets far too much money thrown at it as it makes these announcements, but it’s the citizen we plan to Educate, Engage and Empower. (We love our EEE’s)
We believe our LocalitEEE Community platform with its Community Currency, is a key component in true sustainable living that better supports the community in a Waste Prevention and Circular Economy model. Particularly as it has incentives to engage, inform and empower communities to make their own decisions, in the best interests of this and the next generations.
There’s plenty of Consumerism in the reports from those with all the money, but what we don’t see in the reports are the outcomes that are going to deliver us more problems.
More People, Same Planet, Less Materials. More Carbon, Less Jobs. Something needs to be done. You can’t build a better and fairer society on Consumerism alone.
