We’re pleased to see that Swansea Council Tenants are now being encouraged to use the National Appliance Safety Register. It means for those who do, they are not only helping to protect their own homes and lives from fires caused by known Electrical Product Recalls, but are also protecting their neighbours.
This Register is an alternative for the 35% of people researched, who won’t register appliances for fear of being contacted for marketing purposes. History also shows Manufacturers have failed to announce recalls, which have resulted in serious and damaging fires and in some cases, fatalities. Did you know a fatality from a fire costs around £1.6m to the public purse. At EEESafe we import a weekly update of new Recalls into our database and we will report any risks to any owner of a product registered with us, so that they can make their own decision on whether to continue using an electrical product.
It’s worth a mention that Manufacturers won’t mention us right now, because we also support and promote Safe and Competent Repairs of Appliances, using Quality Recycled Components and giving the work to local people for local jobs. That means of course they wouldn’t be selling new ones. We believe you should be in charge of your own safety decisions and we have to applaud Swansea Council for taking this major safety step in promoting the safety of it’s own Tenants. We’re hoping to raise awareness to the whole of the city next, which would potentially make Swansea City one of the safest cities in the UK, and we’d love to see other Local Authorities and Housing Associations follow suit. The Chief Fire Officers Association and UK Fire Investigators also promote our Register.
If you want your city or town to be safer, may we encourage you to raise the awareness to your local authority, housing association or your friends and family. We owe it to each other.
