Having met with Dept of Business, Innovation and Skills recently, we were able to agree a couple of important points.
- In terms of Electrical Reuse Safety and Appliance Repair, they agreed that EEESafe is a Safer Standard than that required by UK Law.
- They also agreed that the Skills of an Electrician are not directly transferable to those of an Appliance Repair Technician.
EEESafe plans a Competent Persons Scheme, where anyone wishing to evidence they operate to a Safer Standard, will have to submit an application to become an EEESafe a Domestic Appliance Technician. (DATc or DARc), Domestic Appliance Refurbisher. A DATc is a Certified home visit Repairer whilst a DARc, is only workshop based, allowing for those less skilled in dealing with home electrical circuits, installations or are perhaps building their skills in a safe work learning environment and may also provide opportunities for those rebuilding their lives where past experiences may have left them unable to work at all.
Certification is a pre-cursor to those who may want to become Qualified and have a more in depth training programme that could lead to an full blown Apprenticeship in Plumbing, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. We are seeking to find the right delivery partners to train so that as an audited EEESafe Training Centre, they can teach our own Qualification using our own Licenced Training Materials allowing you ti become a regulated independent Community Repairer where you live.
A DATc or DARc will need to pass their online Ohms Law assessment which is required to assess your knowledge of Ohms Law and your understanding of Electricity. This is subject to approval criteria when you first applying for Certification. They will need to agree to to our safety protocol and comply with our reporting methods. You can remain Certified or progress to become EEESafe Qualified when the courses are up and running however, certification will count towards your costs of becoming qualified where you will be taught to a Level 2 NVQ and be recognised as having an appropriate technical depth of knowledge and essential practical skill sets. This will help demonstrate to us and the public your commitments and evidence of your work supporting environmental and social impacts. EEESafe will evidence these on your behalf using key metrics from our system, where you will eventually become embedded into the Circular Economy Community, (LocalitEEE) which is focuses only on that community where you live.
There will be a moderate fee required to apply, which is renewable annually.
They will then be invited to apply and submit a number of key sets of evidence around the work they are currently doing and the equipment they use. This helps to keep out Rogue Traders and DIY people unaware of the dangers, who are looking to earn income from gaining online video knowledge and practical experience. This process ensures a safer approach and is monitored by a 3rd Party Organisation.
A DAT will agree to submit safety readings when conducting repairs and refurbishment, and inform customers to consider registering Appliances at our Ethical Appliance Safety Register. See the Community and Business Benefits HERE.
Monitoring of a DAT’s Repair and Refurbish activities and therefore your willingness to be accountable, is also conducted through Repair Readings, using Customer Ratings in LocalitEEE. Leads that evidence Waste Prevention and Community Help, will also be provided by working with our National Appliance Safety Register. Product Recalls are a risk of an accident and Fire Risk in the home if not addressed. There have been millions found recently and research from Electrical Safety First shows 35% of people do not Register them. Many cite not trusting manufacturers, but now consumers have an ethical alternative.
Registering with EEESafe, not only reduces risk, but its net impact tackles Poverty, Environment, reduces repair costs where you live and produces local Regeneration and Skills. Audited Training Courses can also be provided, to train more EEESafe DATs & DARs where you live. With over combined 50 years experience in the Sector, you cannot find a safer and more sustainable solution. (Training The Trainer Courses Available)
We are seeking legislation change to our better standard as a minimum required by law and are challenging the Purpose of A PAT Test being used to misguide consumers that An Appliance is safe to use, even combined with Function Testing. Read our Article of Evidence.
If you want to let your Customers know that you operate to a SAFER Standard, then please register your interest with EEESafe. Note: Citizens will favour local repairers who show that they are insured and its your choice if you upload this with EEESafe.
