How notable that Grenfell and Whirlpool are in the news at the same time.
No one can doubt for one minute that the Tragedy of Grenfell will ever nor should ever be forgotten. Not even after a Generation has gone, but Manufacturers like Whirlpool shouldn’t go unnoticed either, so it’s very pertinent now that both these items are in the news at the same time.
Whilst there’s a huge focus on the Cladding, lets not forget if an Appliance didn’t catch fire in the first place, then maybe the cladding would have gone unnoticed. We shudder to think of that now, because that would have left us with a silent killer that no one would have wanted to deal with, largely because of the huge costs and scale of operations to change every block of flats around the UK.
But it has happened, and as such we shouldn’t forget that prevention is better than cure. In all the Grenfell and Whirlpool news, we’ve not yet heard once, anyone deduce that if the design/repair/refurbishment of an appliance had been better and safer, we could lessen the chances of any fire ever starting in any home.
If anyone isn’t clear on what could cause White Goods Fires, then it’s not just us who understand this which you’ll see if you take a look at THIS ARTICLE, There you’ll read some startling results from Forensic Research on fires caused by White Goods. Whilst in all cases of fires caused by White Goods, there are other factors to also consider, it’s important that a balanced view must be maintained. However “One Fire is One Fire too many.” Ask anyone who has encountered one, if you feel that isn’t the case.
Now If anyone feels they can also still Trust a Manufacturer, then it won’t come as a surprise that today’s news may leave you in some doubt on the matter. Perhaps there will always be mistrust of Manufacturers and research has shown that on a number of Surveys such as THIS ONE. According to that Survey by Electrical Safety First in 2014, “61% said they would be more likely to register products if they were reassured their information would not be used for marketing purposes.”
That’s not good news because if you do still have some mistrust of Manufacturers, their own Appliance Register that the UK Government promotes today, (will in excess of 70% of cases), send your information to a Warranty Sales Company. The Government knows this because we told them and advised them to get it changed. So do we now have to question Government as well as Manufacturers?. EEESafe have been lobbying for changes at Government on these issues well before the Grenfell tragedy and were the first Independent White Goods Appliance Safety Register on the market. Here’s ONE ARTICLE, with some interesting links that may enlighten some readers of this article.
Through Linked systems, EEESafe are looking to install Trained and Safer Repair Technicians into your Local Community, who will be recognised and monitored by us as well as evidencing their engagement in tackling Climate Change. We are lobbying for Government to also promote our Appliance Safety Register, so that consumers can make a choice without fear of Sales Calls and fill a Gap that the Office for Product Safety Standards continues to leave unmitigated.
We want to Positively Disrupt this closed system and bring about Real Change that effects more safer repair, tackles poverty and climate change. If you want more information, please contact us HERE.
