Today we are announcing we have concerns over the NAPIT online DVD PAT Testing Certificate.
With the continued growth of the Reuse Sector and Governments Waste Prevention programmes to focus more on Reuse and Repair, the concerns for us in White Goods repairs are of a safety nature.
There will be more people in the industry undertaking work where there is a limited depth of knowledge on large domestic appliances. Its evident that the NAPIT online Course has no practical assessment due to the nature of its delivery. This may be acceptable in an office environment for Kettles, Toasters, Computers etc but when goods are being repaired and put back into circulation, we believe that a greater depth of knowledge is required. Particularly where there is accountability for items under warranty. We want to reduce the amount of household fires and accidents recorded in the UK, some of which are attributable to large domestic appliances and we feel it incumbent on us to raise awareness of our concerns.
We have a combined 40+ years experience of the sector and training in Appliance repairs which is where the root of our concerns lie. Frequently even with qualified electricians and qualified PAT Testers, it has become obvious that they do not have a sound enough knowledge of appliance construction and the operation of key component and circuits of major large appliances.
We have taken the decision to invite NAPIT, to discuss ways forward that will ensure we do not have to rule out acceptance of this Certification when becoming an EEESafe Centre or becoming an EEESafe Qualified Domestic Appliance Repairer.
NAPIT has a great reputation and we believe the brand delivers quality which we would heartily recommend to anyone seeking a career in the Electrical Industry.
