EuEEESafe Funding coming closer

Following our 2 day visit to Germany to meet our EU Partners Cleopa last week, we are pleased to say that there is a great synergy between all the countries and partners involved.  Creating and using a European and International standard would enable Appliance Repairers to maintain their records and skillset evidence wherever they operate. It would highlight their continued contribution to a Circular Economy through evidenced Carbon Emission Reductions, and Waste Reduction metrics and make international homes safer.  Partners could see it was truly global and aligned with COP 21 Principals and had the potential to create many local jobs, and dealt with rogue trading and recovered missing material streams like metals through community engagement.

With Brexit coming up the opportunity was clear we could also develop an EU or International Certification of Domestic Appliance Technicians (DAT) and Domestic Appliance Refurbishers (DAR).  When recognised for its Circular Economy outcomes, Community Engagement and local job creation, we agreed the model was a powerful one.

Utilising our Training Materials we saw the opportunity to trial development and creation of our Community Fixers in 3 Countries giving local skills to engage in a Circular Economy Model.  Working on an integrated approach with a pared down version of our LocalitEEE Community platform, we are going to prevent Electrical Waste, increase Safe Electrical Reuse, Safe Recycled Spares and ensure high value materials like metals, return value back to the local community.

The creation of the first European or International Appliance Safety Register (depending on final partners) would also ensure homes are actually safer than in the UK, when it comes to fire risks from Product Recalls. (Uk Government has already agreed we are safer than UK minimum standard required).  This will compliment our existing Appliance Register which won’t take away Manufacture Control, as we promote their same safety guidelines.

Our project will allow consumers to have new Circular Economy information metrics, and make an informed choice about where they would dispose of their old Appliances. We will look to Include assurances of data destruction when it comes to Internet of Things enabled Appliances as well. See Article Consumer privacy is becoming increasingly concerning, so EuEEESafe seeks to improve this and ensure consumers have a trusted brand, to ensure safety and value returns to local communities.  Increasing engagement in a Circular Economy is a vital outcome in resource efficient strategies for the planet and future generations.

Allowing retailers to take back appliances and products to a Retailer only means you deny local employment to someone in your community through reparation.  It also means you deny an opportunity to prevent waste and offer potentially reuseable items that could help low income families to keep out of debt.  It’s not always wise to use an energy efficient appliance at the expense of reduced disposable income for food and basic living standards, especially where children are involved.  However our project, together with Retailer engagement offers choices and metrics about what to do when replacing electrical goods.

With EEESafe a crucial partner in the project, we will make it easier for consumers to identify a trusted Brand for Electrical Repair and Reuse.  Together with an Appliance Register that operates safer and delivers tangible community benefits, ultimately including cash rewards for your community, where we hope to lead everyone to greater sustainably at the least expense to the planet.
