Whirlpool have just recalled up to 519,000 Washing Machines..
The reason given for the problem is related to when the machine is working there is extra current running through the heating element and this could cause the door locking system to overheat.
The Hotpoint and Indesit models would have been purchased between October 2014 to date.
Details on what to do can be found HERE. however their site is crashing at the moment for technical reasons.
Calling them directly on 0800 316 1442 is an option however, that has problems at the moment as well. We would advise that you do not use these machines at the moment, although technically a cold wash would most likely be fine. We believe there will be a last minute rush for sales of new ones, which of course is going to create a lot of Electrical waste and remove from the system, some recyclable spares that are not part of the heating element subsystem. This is something EEESafe is working to change, to help lower harmful emissions, lower repair costs and tackle poverty.

We’re pleased to report that any of our Appliance Safety Registrants do not own this item, as we’ve checked our records. You’ll soon be able to check with our own Appliance Checker, when it’s formally released.
Watch it HERE.
Our Register is unique because it doesn’t go to Warranty Sales companies and supplies you with the same Manufacturer Safety information, if there’s a known safety alert. We can when our new updated register is launched, give you access to many other benefits, which include dropping your Used Appliance, directly to your Community’s online LocalitEEE Community Shop when you are ready to replace it. This makes disposal and selling a breeze, and also generates money to help local people where you live. You can get a great overview of how this will work, because we will be running online Webinars to any Community in the UK, who wants to get involved.
If you wish to engage with us on our Community Solutions which will link to our New Appliance Register then please Contact Us below.
EEESafe are looking to install Safer Repair Technicians into your Local Community living on your neighbourhood, who will be recognised and monitored by us as well as evidencing their engagement in tackling Climate Change.
